Rotary Club Lagos hosts second Polio Gala Dinner

Ending polio is one of Rotary International’s main goals

The Rotary Club of Lagos is hosting its second Polio Gala Dinner of the Algarve at the Duna Beach Club, part of the Tivoli Lagos Algarve Resort in Meia Praia, on Saturday (October 26).

The event, which is open to everyone, begins at 7.30pm and runs until late, with tickets costing €50.

The main goal of the event is to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation’s goal to eradicate polio. Taking place just two days after International Polio Prevention Day (October 24), the gala dinner will call attention to the charity’s efforts to eradicate the waterborne disease, which has been a cornerstone of the “global movement that is Rotary International since 1985”. Since 1985, Rotary International has invested billions in vaccination programmes across over 100 countries. Despite significant progress, polio remains endemic in Bangladesh and Afghanistan, with recent reports highlighting a resurgence in Gaza.

This crucial vaccine programme must be constantly maintained and renewed with each generation to reduce the incidence in communities already challenged by so many other social factors,” says the Rotary Club of Lagos, which is organising the gala dinner with the support of the 12 other Rotary Clubs of the Algarve.

All proceeds from the gala will support the Rotary Foundation and Polio Plus, ensuring the continued maintenance and renewal of vaccination efforts in vulnerable communities.

“We look forward to Rotarians, friends and supporters uniting in a splendid evening catered by the Tivoli in a unique setting for a worthwhile cause,” Rotary Lagos adds.
