International footballer, Luís Figo, will be honoured during a ceremony to be held at the start of the eagerly awaited football clash between Portugal and England, scheduled to take place at the new Algarve Stadium on February 18. The Algarve’s regional tourism board, the RTA, will pay tribute to the Real Madrid player, who, over the years, has not only become one of Portugal’s footballing greats, but has also become an ambassador for the Algarve. Figo has spent most of his holidays in the region, where he owns a home in Vilamoura; he has invited several high profile footballers, such as Raúl Gonzalez, Zidane, Guardiola and others from both the Real Madrid and Barcelona teams to spend time in the Algarve. Figo also has business ties in the region, as he owns Bar 7, seen by many as an emblem of the Marina de Vilamoura and is internationally renowned.
