FIESA, THE international sand sculpture festival in Pêra, officially opened its doors to the public on Thursday, June 7. The Resident, however, was allowed a sneak preview of the wonders inside on June 6, along with other especially invited guests, for an evening of jazz.
Guests entered the Fiesa grounds at 8pm and were immediately amazed at the sculptures. This year, the theme for the festival is Maravilhas do Mundo, or Wonders of the World, with sand sculptures depicting the Sydney Opera House, Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper,

Portugal’s Discoveries Monument, the Eiffel Tower and Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer, among others.
Sculptors came from around the world to take part in the Fiesa festival from countries such as Holland, the UK, the Ukraine, Russia, the Czech Republic and the US.
A live jazz band, set up on a sand sculptured stage, created a wonderful atmosphere for guests visiting the festival. Entertainment was also provided for children in the form of a permanent covered sand pit and a

circus entertainer who delighted them with his tricks.
