Santa and his reindeer come to Loulé to kick off Christmas programme

A sleigh drawn by real-life reindeer will bring Santa Claus to Loulé this Saturday (November 29), kicking off the municipality’s 2014 Christmas programme.
Entitled ‘O Natal é no Comércio Tradicional’, the programme has been devised to encourage “local” shopping during the season, in a bid to bolster the borough’s businesses.
Santa’s arrival in style, with reindeer from the Netherlands courtesy of a company from northern Portugal, will be part of a larger Christmas parade to begin at 2.30pm and take place between the Engº Duarte Pacheco monument and Praça da República.
His sleigh will be ‘escorted’ by members of the Motoclube de Loulé, Motoclube Rodas do Relógio, Clube de BTT Terras de Loulé, Clube Hípico de Loulé and Majoretes de Loulé until it finally arrives at Praça da República, where Santa will hand out presents to children and be on hand for photographs.
The celebration will also feature musical performances by the EnsinAr Te choir and Stompitos percussion group.
Santa is then scheduled to visit Quarteira on December 6 (11am at Praça do Mar) and Almancil on December 7 (3pm at Jardim das Comunidades).
