“Santos Populares” celebrations animate Castro Marim

Until June 29, the entire Municipality of Castro Marim will be filled with the vibrant energy of the traditional Popular Saints’ dances and festivals.

The Municipality of Castro Marim is celebrating the traditional “Popular Saints” with vibrant street festivities until June 29, uniting the community in celebration.

Altura, Junqueira, Azinhal, Castro Marim, Rio Seco, and Barrocal will be the focal points for the festivities, a tradition cherished by the residents of Castro Marim.

The main event will take place on June 23 with the “Grande Arraial de São João” (the Great Saint John Festival) and the Popular Marches parade on the Praça 1º de Maio, in the capital of the Municipality.

Amidst the traditional decorations of garlands, balloons, coloured paper flowers, basil, and verses, Sérgio Conceição, Filipe Romão, Acordeanima, Grupo +2, Zé Aníbal, Luís Godinho, Duo Reflexo, Hugo Madeira, Sandrine, and Filomena Raposo will bring joyous music for the crowds to dance and jump over a rosemary bonfire.

The festive masts and decorations honouring the Popular Saints in Castro Marim will also be highlighted. These are a testament to the hard work and commitment of the local associations, who consistently uphold the tradition and bring the community together for this annual celebration.
