São Brás de Alportel council and several entities “linked to civil protection” held a meeting last week to discuss the success of the borough’s fire prevention plan, which kept the municipality safe from any major fires.
A total of 32 small fires broke out this summer in São Brás, “all of which were quickly tackled and put out”.
Prevention was key in São Brás. The council says that everyone worked together to make sure the land was clean, which was essential in the way fires were quickly dealt with.
The new team of Sapadores firefighters in São Brás also “contributed to the success of the plan”.
São Brás council also calls for “more autonomy in terms of land planning” – “current legislation and land planning policies are too restrictive and pose too many constraints.”
