The National Firefighters’ Union (SNBS) has called off the strike and demonstration scheduled for January, to allow for the meeting called by the government for the day after to take place. In a note published on its Facebook page, the SNBS states that, by canceling all scheduled protest actions, “the aim is to ensure that the Government does not resort to unfounded arguments or strategies to avoid negotiating with the SNBS or suspend negotiations”. In early December, the government suspended negotiations with the firefighters, accusing them of exerting illegitimate pressure, with a protest that included firecrackers and smoke near the government headquarters.
