The capture of sardines began in the early hours of this morning, meaning Portugal’s signature fish is back on sale in fish markets. The season opens with a limit on fishing of 37,642 tons, and the rule that sardines must be sold on the docks where they are first unloaded. Fishing boats are also prohibited from unloading in more than one dock.
