Sardine lovers had to put their money where their mouths are this week as the price of the national delicacy shot up by over 100%. The reason for the sudden hike is the advent of the summerās saints festivals, where sardines take centre stage (at least when it comes to the eating side of things). In Sesimbra, a kilo was selling for as much as ā¬6.13, when only the week before the average price nationally had been ā¬1.11 a kilo.
