APAA, the Association for Protection of Animals Algarve, has a hectic month ahead. In-between SNiP’ping, pup-homing and ‘Pop-Upping’, there has been little time for the team to catch breath.
“Gosh!” Jenny is flustered for a moment. “The O Tasco dinner (Wednesday, March 1) is a virtual sell-out!” Newcomer to the Algarve, Alexey is expected to make everyone’s evening a memorable one, singing and playing his guitar, whilst everyone enjoys a candlelit meal.
Next? A Pop-Up for the DIY’ers with home and garden tools, at Casa do Pasto A Parreirinha in Odelouca, on Friday, March 3, from 4pm to 6pm. What’s this about new jams, Jenny? “Oh yes, apple and ginger, chunks of the stuff. A new marmalade too.” So, there’ll be bargains for the ladies too!
The Jolly Bar in Alvor is the next Pop-Up host on Friday, March 24 from 10.30am to 2pm. It’ll be a joint adventure for APAA, with Isabel Searle’s Tiny Shelter having a table of goodies in aid of their charity. There will be cards and prints by artist Gill Goode; Fiona and her Fi-Line range of fashion; home-made goodies and designer items. Wonderful!
Somewhere in-between is APAA’s AGA (members only) on March 13, at 11.30am, followed by a “fun lunch for all” from 12.30pm at Recanto dos Mouros in Silves.
Three pups found before Christmas still attached to their umbilical cords have all been rehomed! No wonder … they turned out to be absolutely gorgeous.
On the lookout for a new forever home is female feline ‘Emma’, our road accident survivor, an older gal. Faithful, loving and brave.
‘Ella’ is the latest abandoned woof on the block. Found loitering in the Gramacho golf course, she was luckily fed and kept out of mischief. With her details and photo plastered across Facebook, Jenny and others have tried to find her owners. “We waited the statutory 14 days for abandoned dogs. She’s now with Gary and Wendy at Pet Park in Mexilhoeira Grande, who help us by looking after our animals needing re-homing.”
After being spayed, ‘Ella’ will be ready for a home … along with ‘Rafa’, ‘Dusty’ and ‘Lilley’. Fingers crossed!
APAA’s Spaying and Neutering Programme (SNiP) is indeed a gift to the abandoned animal kingdom. After all, their motto is ‘Here to Help’.
ARA, Animal Rescue Algarve, has re-appeared on APAA’s radar. Having a wonderful shelter just outside of Loulé, owner Sid Richardson and his general manager João are looking at future prospects with APAA. “There is so much going on” – Sid is committed to his project only three years in the making.
“Finding good, forever homes is an absolute must,” adds João. Eyes and ears open!
