School was cancelled today in the municipality of Montalegre (Vila Real district) due to school bus services being suspended because of the snow. The decision left around 600 pupils at home, even though roads in the municipality remained passable. An official source explained the decision taken out of precaution and safety “because buses are large and so find it more difficult to negotiate snow on roads”.
