Schools in Portugal reported almost 10,000 children in danger to child protection authorities (CPCJ) last year, yet there still are establishments “with difficulties” in filing these kind of reports, national coordinator Rosário Farmhouse has warned, essentially because they are done individually, by teaching and non-teaching staff, and not by the schools themselves. The numbers (9,929) represent an increase on numbers flagged in 2022 (9,082), a parliamentary committee heard. The request to hear Ms Farmhouse came from minority party LIVRE in the context of ‘suspicions of violence against children in Portuguese schools’, writes Lusa.
