Scottish football charity donates £5,000 for disadvantaged youth in Lisbon

With the support of the British Embassy in Lisbon, the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal has donated £5,000 (nearly €6,000) to the National Street Football Association (Associação Nacional de Futebol de Rua).

This contribution marks the Appeal’s 102nd donation, continuing its tradition of supporting children’s charities wherever the Scotland national football team plays overseas. A presentation ceremony was held on the afternoon of September 8, ahead of the Portugal vs Scotland UEFA Nations League football match. Deputy Head of Mission Nigel Boud joined members of both organisations for football activities with the children in an event marked with traditional Scottish flair, kilts, and bagpipes.

The National Street Football Association provides underprivileged children with opportunities to engage in sports, fostering social inclusion and human development. The £5,000 donation from the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal will enable the Association to run various social sports activities related to street football and include study support sessions for the children.

“This £5,000 donation from the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal will have a big impact on the lives of many young people here in Lisbon. By supporting the National Street Football Association, the Sunshine Appeal is helping provide vital opportunities for underprivileged children to grow, learn, and thrive through sport. It’s heartening to see how our countries can unite not just on the football field, but also in our support for those in need,” said Nigel Boud, Deputy Head of Mission at British Embassy Lisbon.
