Maritime authorities have resumed searches for the 63-year-old German tourist who was swept out to sea by a wave from the beach of Achada da Cruz, in Madeira, on Sunday.
Hopes for improved weather conditions are high, as waves are expected to stay below 3-4 metres today, and the wind is down. But expectations of finding the tourist alive have all but faded.
FĂ©lix Marques, head of the Funchal ports authority, said he believes “the body was dragged out to sea and, due to the strong tides, pulled to the ocean floorâ.
