Searches resume for paraglider lost at sea near Vila do Bispo

Helmet and life vest already recovered

Searches will resume this morning for the paraglider who appears to have gone missing yesterday afternoon after falling into the sea at Furnas beach, near Vila do Bispo, in the western Algarve.

According to reports, paragliding equipment, a helmet and a life vest have already been recovered from the water, but as darkness fell there was no sign of the paraglider.

The alert was sounded by a member of the public at 5.20pm after seeing parts of the paraglider in the water.

Searches began very quickly. By 7.15 there were 22 operatives on the scene, accompanied by eight ground units, and two drones from the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command (CREPCA) were already in the air.

It is unclear at this point whether the paraglider was a man or a woman, local or from another part of the country/ another country.
