A Ryanair plane had to make an emergency landing at Faro Airport this morning, making it the airline’s second aircraft to do so in one week.
The latest, a Boeing 737-8-200 MAX with 164 people on board, had to land in the Algarve due to an engine failure this Tuesday morning.
According to Civil Protection sources, flight FR1249 departed from Manchester, UK at 6.10am, heading to the Spanish island of Tenerife. After the engine failure was detected, the plane was diverted to the Faro Airport where it landed safely.
A team of 82 personnel supported by 35 vehicles was mobilised to the scene at 9.20am but did not need to intervene. According to information from ANA – Airports of Portugal, the aircraft landed safely at 9.45am, and the airport’s emergency plan was activated.
This was the second emergency landing by a Ryanair plane at Faro Airport in one week. The other happened on Tuesday, December 5, when a plane which had departed from the UK and was en-route to Morocco had to land at the airport when the pilot felt unwell.
