Seismic activity continues to rattle Faial, in the Azores

New tremors rattling the island (and residents) of Faial, in the Azores, have added to the seismic crisis registered on the island of São Jorge since March last year. The latest quakes came over the weekend, all of them ‘felt’. Yesterday, there was a 3.7 tremor at 5.37 pm, with the epicentre 24 kms from the borough of Capelo. Saturday saw three, registering 3.3 (just after midnight), 3.8 (mid-morning) and 3.3 (just after lunch). Also yesterday, São Jorge registered a new quake in its ongoing ‘crisis’, of 2.5 intensity (on Richter scale). For a fascinating picture of the seismic activity around the Azores, click here.
