A trailer filled with 15 tons of grass which was being towed by a truck was completely destroyed after it caught fire on the Algarve’s A22 motorway on Saturday morning in Odiáxere, Lagos.
The fire is believed to have started on one of the right-side wheels and then spread to the rest of the trailer.
Despite the blaze, the 43-year-old driver was still able to detach the trailer from the truck, preventing the flames from destroying the vehicle. The trailer and the cargo were completely destroyed.
Once firefighters arrived to put out the blaze, a complex operation was carried out to remove the burnt cargo and the trailer from the motorway which took several hours and affected traffic.
