Between October and January, citizens can participate in the Climathon, a series of debates designed to “involve the population in the decision-making process on climate change”.
The municipality of Silves is getting its population involved in the Climathon – Marathon for the Climate, organised by the Zero environmental association. Created to help protect the territories most vulnerable to climate change, the event consists of three debates between October and January.
The project, financed by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s “Climate Action and Public Participation” programme, aims to involve the population in the decision-making process on climate change at a municipal level in a “more in-depth, continuous and prolonged” manner.
The Climate Marathon consists of three public participation sessions, open to all citizens and age groups. The debates will be held on three different Saturdays from 10h00 to 13h00, followed by a celebration lunch open to all participants.
According to the association, the objective is to make the scientific knowledge behind climate change accessible and, simultaneously, “create an informal environment to encourage positive, constructive and non-judgmental participation”.
The sessions in Silves will take place at the Centre for Luso-Arab and Mediterranean Studies on October 26, November 30 and January 18, 2025.
