Silves sets up cat shelters in several parishes

The initiative is a collaborative effort between the municipality and Silves Prison

The municipal council of Silves has set up cat shelters in several locations across the borough, including two in the town of Silves, two in São Bartolomeu de Messines, and one each in Alcantarilha and Pêra.

This initiative is a collaborative effort between the municipality and Silves Prison, where inmates constructed the shelters using materials provided by the local government. Previously, the local council had also set up a shelter in Algoz and has expressed a commitment to expanding the project to other parishes in Silves.

“The initiative aims to improve the well-being of cat colonies by enabling tracking, sterilisation, and veterinary care. Additionally, it supports caregivers in their efforts and encourages adoption,” the council says in a statement.
