Singer-songwriter Michael Armstrong visits Kiss FM

English singer-songwriter Michael Armstrong recently stopped by Kiss FM’s studio in Albufeira for an interview with radio DJ Owen Gee during a short holiday in the Algarve in-between touring.

Armstrong was fresh off a “sell-out tour” with British group T’Pau, says Gee, and will soon embark on another tour with Peter Howarth of The Hollies.

The rising young star has been enjoying widespread success following the release of his self-titled debut album in 2015, co-produced by “music maestro” Keith Bassey.

It features several guest appearances, including guitarists Albert Lee, Elliot Randell and Phil Palmer, and has received rave reviews.

Michael told Gee that he first became interested in music at the age of eight, when he started learning to play guitar, piano and drums. By 12 he was writing songs, and at 19 he was touring the gig circuit at night while working for his family’s construction business.

Armstrong’s career took off after a “chance meeting” with his future manager, which led to the release of his 2012 EP and saw him finally clinching an album deal three years later.

Along the way he was invited by Simon Cowell’s company Syco to enter X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, but he ended up turning the offers down as he said he felt that his musical career would last longer if he built it on his own.
