Don’t let the title confuse you – in addition to the sisters, there are seven male parts
The Algarveans theatre group is holding auditions for ‘Sister Act – The Musical’ on March 26 and 28.
The director, Carmen Danen, is still looking for male actors for various parts including the four gangsters where some singing and hip action is required. But there are other parts where acting alone will suffice. She would also like to encourage dancers male and female to sign up.
Based on the blockbusting film starring Whoopi Goldberg, the story follows Deloris van Cartier, a woman forced to hide out in a convent. There, in a tale full of hilarious and heartwarming twists and turns, she helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she rediscovers her own.
Music is by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater and the book is written by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane. Based on the Touchstone Pictures Motion Picture “Sister Act” written by Joseph Howard, this amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International. All authorised performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
The Algarveans performance dates are November 14 to 17 at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa.
All auditions are held in the evening at the “Little Theatre” at UJS Sesmarias, Lagoa. To register your interest in a part and for more information about the audition process and the show, email algarveansevents@gmail.com
