Smiles all round – ‘Feliz Ano Novo’ from Castelo de Sonhos

The Silves-based family charity Castelo de Sonhos would like to send a “huge thank you” to everyone who participated in the 19th Christmas Shoebox Campaign for the Elderly.

A record of over 300 boxes were donated, which meant that the Castelo de Sonhos volunteers were able to distribute boxes to local care homes and to elderly patients at Portimão Hospital (via the Associação Elos de Esperança) and also to the Algarve Emporium charity in Guia.

Very special thanks to the following:

Silves Rotary Club, Kathleen Kuys & friends, Kristin from Vale do Lobo, Nada Louw & The Moonlighters of Portimão, the Nobel School of Lagoa, DEKA the German speaking Lutheran Church in Carvoeiro, the Algarve Crochet & Knitting Cabin for blankets, hats, shawls, gloves and hand warmers, socks, teddy bears and even knitted Christmas trees!

Thanks also to the Water Dog Pub in Armação de Pêra, The Food Company in Guia (who also donated food and chocolates) and Crafteria in Sesmarias for allowing Castelo de Sonhos to use their premises as drop-off points.

And, of course, special thanks to the Prince Henry the Navigator Lodge, the Widows’ Sons Lodge and the Afonso III Lodge who together generously donated Christmas food baskets for families registered with CdeS.

And last, but not least, a big thank you to everyone who donated warm clothing, blankets, bags of groceries or made donations to buy food for the family Christmas food baskets.

Castelo de Sonhos wishes everyone who contributed towards making Christmas 2023 special for so many people a very happy 2024.
