Snow closes roads in Serra da Estrela

Roads in the central massif of Serra da Estrela have been closed to traffic since yesterday morning due to snowfall, a source from Civil Protection has confirmed today, and there are no plans for their reopening for the time being. According to the Beiras and Serra da Estrela Sub-Regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection, the snow that fell yesterday led to the cutting of road sections numbers 11, 12 and 13 between Piornos – Torre and Torre – Lagoa Comprida. Elsewhere, the districts of Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga are under an orange warning​​​​​​​ – the second most serious of a scale of four – until Wednesday, due to rough seas. The districts of Guarda and Castelo Branco are also under an orange warning, due to wind.
