Socialite ‘drag queen’ detained for domestic violence

José Castelo Branco, the self described “public figure of the Portuguese jet set”, was arrested this morning on suspicion of domestic violence against his wife of almost 30 years, American millionairess ‘Betty’ Grafstein. Grafstein, 95, is in CUF hospital in Cascais and has been since last month, with various conditions. She is understood to have asked hospital staff to ‘save her’ from her husband’s mistreatment. It is these members of staff who lodged the complaint on which authorities have acted. Castelo Branco is reportedly barred from visiting his wife, and has posted numerous clips over social media, asking his thousands of followers to ‘pray for her’. He will be spending this evening in police cells due to the ongoing strike by court staff, which made it impossible to arrange a hearing by a magistrate today.
