Four injured, two seriously: including doctor travelling to emergency
An INEM medical and emergency resuscitation vehicle (VMER) crashed this morning as it responded to a call in Espinho, Aveiro district, running over two pedestrians.
In all, four people were injured: two seriously. The most seriously injured were the doctor travelling in the VMER and one of the pedestrians.
The other two people were the nurse, also in the VMER, and the second pedestrian.
At this point there is no detail on the emergency to which the VMER was travelling, and what became of that part of this incident; nor is there much in the way of explanation into how the crash happened. The fact that all reports refer to a ‘speeding ambulance’ may suggest that the cause was the speed at which the VMER was travelling.
The alert went out shortly after 10.30am. Information over social media suggests the pedestrians are women in their 60s, while the injured doctor is a man aged 28. Images also show that the VMER crashed into a tree, reportedly at the intersection of two roads near the ‘court garden of Espinho’.
