The event was attended by the Honorary Consul of Ireland to the Algarve
The St. Patrick’s Society of the Algarve was established in 2002 to promote social activities for Irish people and their friends. Since then, the flagship event each year is the annual Dinner Dance to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
This year’s event was held in the Penina Hotel & Golf Resort on Friday, March 14.
Almost 100 members and guests of various nationalities attended and were treated to a “wonderful buffet by the excellent staff”. The entertainment was supplied by the “talented Vitor” who played a variety of music and soon had everyone on the dance floor.
The Honorary Consul of Ireland to the Algarve, Andrea Viegas, addressed the gathering and thanked the Society for the work they do in organizing the various social events throughout the year.
The Consul also listed a number of events that she had arranged to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Quinta Shopping, which included a children’s parade, Irish music, and an Irish dancing workshop, culminating in a performance of a special Irish-themed repertoire by the Orchestra of the Algarve in the Wyndham Grand in Quinta do Lago.
The St. Patrick’s Society always welcomes new members and, of course, you don’t have to be Irish to join. Contact Teresa by email: membership.st.patricks.algarve@gmail.com
