Talking on the ‘subject of the last week: the rioting in Lisbon following the point-blank shooting by police of a black man’, political commentator and member of the Council of State, Luís Marques Mendes, considered (like many critics before him) that the security forces in this instance failed “as much in the streets as in their communication”. This latter remark alludes to the initial statement issued by police which did not appear to correspond with the facts.
