Viana do Castelo and Braga are under orange weather warning due to rain, wind and rough sea conditions.
The districts of Viana do Castelo and Braga are under an orange weather warning from today due to the forecast of rain, wind and rough sea, the day on which storm Kirk begins to be felt.
According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), storm Kirk is expected to move northwest of the Iberian peninsula after passing north of the Azores archipelago and approaching the continent on Wednesday morning, with worsening weather conditions this afternoon.
Due to the worsening weather, IPMA placed the districts of Braga and Viana do Castelo under orange warning due to the forecast of persistent rain, sometimes heavy, turning into showers that may be accompanied by thunder from 21h00 today until 09h00 on Wednesday.
Braga and Viana do Castelo, as well as the Porto district, are also under an orange weather warning due to the southwest wind with gusts of 75 kilometres per hour (km/h), up to 95 km/h along the coastal strip and up to 110 km/h in the highlands between 03:00 and 09:00 on Wednesday.
Due to rough sea conditions, the IPMA has placed an orange warning along the entire Portuguese coast, with westward waves likely to be five to six meters high and possibly peaking at 12 meters from 09:00 on Wednesday until 00:00 on Thursday.
