The fourth Sovereign Art Prize competition for students has been launched in all Algarve and Alto Alentejo secondary schools, inviting students from years 10, 11 and 12 to submit their art in the hope of winning a monetary prize.
The students’ prizes are an initiative by the Sovereign Art Foundation and are run in various countries. The main purpose of the prizes is to inspire, encourage and reward young artists in the community, to encourage cultural development and to raise funds for charity projects involving the arts. The Portugal Prize is organised by Sovereign Consultoria Lda, based in Lagoa.
Students are invited to submit their art, online, by January 7, 2020, for review by a panel of judges who will select which are, in their opinion, the best 20. These finalists’ artworks will subsequently be exhibited to the public at various locations in the Algarve and in Estremoz.
There are three prizes to be won. The winning students and their schools can each win €750 for the 1st Judges Prize, €500 for the 2nd Judges Prize and €300 for the Public Vote Prize which will be awarded to the artwork which receives the most votes from the public, both online and directly during the exhibitions.
Winners will be announced at a grand prizegiving event in July 2020.
At the end of the competition, the final 20 artworks will be sold with the proceeds being divided between the artists and the charity project chosen by Sovereign for this prize, which will be NECI located in Praia da Luz.
NECI is an institution that runs various art workshops for its residential and day care disabled teenagers and adults.
Sovereign is also looking for sponsors.
