Around 30% of nurses surveyed in Portugal in 2024 reported symptoms of severe depression, in a study to assess perceptions of their own mental health, according to the results released today. The study “NursesMH#Survey2024: The mental health of Portuguese nurses” saw 1,894 nurses participate, and found an increase in the negative perceptions of their mental health, compared to the first analysis carried out in 2017, in which 1,264 participated. The findings indicate that 28.8% of nurses perceive symptoms of severe depression, 6.4% more than seven years ago.
