“Submerged Universe”revealed at Lisbon Oceanarium

Until January 31, the immersive exhibition explores the delicate balance between microscopic beings and ocean giants.

Lisbon’s Oceanarium has inaugurated a new and magical immersive experience. The “Universo Submerso” (Submerged Universe) exhibition takes the public to a poetic environment that varies between the celestial universe and the bottom of the sea. This incredible journey reveals how all elements, from tiny plankton to majestic whales, are connected and balanced.

The Oceanário de Lisboa team developed the project in close collaboration with the international studio Les Ateliers BK, which specialises in combining art and technology to produce captivating visual installations.

The partnership with the French studio, which is responsible, among other things, for the video mapping projection of the Arc de Triomphe during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, focuses on a magical experience that combines the scientific rigour of the marine world with the artistic abstraction of the imagination. Immersed in a universe of currents, lights, movements, and sounds, the public is invited to reflect on the role of each component in the balance of the marine ecosystem.

“Through a choreography of colour, light and sound, visitors will be able to connect to an underwater universe, which will be unknown to many”, says Roque Cunha Ferreira, CEO of Oceanário de Lisboa, reinforcing that the new exhibition complements the visit with an immersive experience, and a new perspective of the ocean, ranging from microscopic plankton to humpback whales.
