A performance by the Sul’Arte Quintet will take place at Quintinha da Música near Tavira on Sunday, September 22.
The group was formed in 2012 as a quartet by four professional musicians working in the Algarve: violinists José Gomes and Helena Duarte, Ângela Silva on viola and cellist Mikhail Shumov. Over the last two years, the group has also been performing with pianist Joana Shumova.
Sul’Arte performs mostly at schools in order to present classical music to new generations of listeners. The group has also performed at big Algarve events, such as Loulé’s MED Festival.
José Gomes teaches violin at the Olhão Conservatory while Helena Duarte is deputy head of the second violins at the Orquestra Clássica do Sul. Ângela Silva has performed with several orchestras in Portugal and Brazil and is now lead viola in the OCS while Mikhail Sumov is lead cello. Joana Shumova, on the other hand, is an international prizewinner in many competitions and has performed throughout Europe.
For their show at Quintinha da Música, the group will be playing music by Tchaikovsky, Dvorak and Elfrida Andrée. The show will begin at 5pm, with tickets costing €25.
