The parade will not take place “even if the weather improves in the afternoon”
Sunday’s (February 11) Carnival celebrations in Loulé have been cancelled due to the inclement weather, announced the council.
The decision was taken after consulting weather experts who forecast rain “just before the street parade is due to start” at 3pm. Thus, the hugely popular Sunday Carnival parade along Avenida José da Costa Mealha will not take place, “even if the weather improves in the afternoon”.
In total, 14 floats populated by over 600 participants will be making their way along Avenida José da Costa Mealha, with satire once again playing a major part in the festivities.
The Loulé Carnaval celebrations also aim to give something back to the community: for every ticket sold (€2), proceeds are divided between the associations that participate in the parade and Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSSs).
Those who purchased tickets for the Sunday event will be able to use them on Monday and Tuesday.
