Supreme court overthrows Socrates’ appeal to remove judges

Portugal’s Supreme Court of Justice has rejected the request by former Socialist prime minister José Sócrates’ for the removal of two of the Lisbon Court of Appeal judges who decided he should be tried for corruption in the long-running case known as “Operation Marquês”. Sócrates has been ‘fighting’ all efforts to put him on trial for the best part of a decade. He has said he will appeal now to the Constitutional Court.
