The 35th edition of Lagos’ traditional confectionary art fair attracted thousands of sweet-toothed visitors.
Between July 24 and 28, the 35th edition of Lagos’s popular Arte Doce confectionary fair proved another sweet success. Over the five days of the event, the venue was practically full.
While offering visitors a taste of regional sweets, musical shows, crafts, local delicacies, children’s entertainment and cooking exhibitions, confectioners once again competed in creativity, tradition, and innovation.
This year’s theme inevitably marked the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution. “Freedom” was celebrated at Arte Doce, both as part of the entertainment and as the mandatory theme of the Arte Doce Competitions.
The Ribatejo was this year’s guest region, presenting some of its flavours and artists.
Musical entertainment was one of the fair’s highlights, with two stages and a lounge area. Local artists and guest performers included Expensive Soul, Fernando Daniel, Hybrid Theory—The Linkin Park Tribute, Plutonio, and Luís Trigacheiro.
The main attractions – and heart and soul of the event – continue to be the expertise and creations of the confectioners who battle to preserve the Algarve’s regional sweets.
With great satisfaction, the Municipality witnessed an increase in participating businesses at the fair, attracting visitors in great numbers and forming large queues at the sweet stands.
As a contribution and tribute to their work, Lagos City Hall once again rewarded participants through competitions – Arte Doce (Free and Mandatory Theme), Quality in Tradition and Innovation Sweets. The prize-giving ceremony took place on July 28, the last day of the Arte Doce fair.
