Swimming ban imposed at Fuseta-Ria and Armação de Pêra beaches

The beaches of Fuseta-Ria in Olhão and Armação de Pêra in Silves are the latest to undergo a swimming ban in Portugal

A swimming ban has been imposed at the Algarve beaches of Fuseta-Ria in Olhão and Armação de Pêra in Silves, the Portuguese Environmental Agency (APA) announced this Tuesday.

The decision was made after microbiological tests detected the presence of E. coli bacteria.

The ban will remain in place until the water is found to be fit for swimming once again.

Since the start of the bathing season, swimming bans have already been imposed at around 50 beaches across Portugal.

Earlier this month, Portugal’s ZERO environmental association warned of a worsening of water quality on the country’s beaches.
