Symington Family Estates, one of the leading producers of premium quality Ports, was awarded the Portuguese Wine Producer of the Year Trophy 2013 at the International Wine & Spirit Competition – the oldest international wine competition in the world – which took place on November 13 in London.
The trophy was awarded to Symington due to the excellent performance of its Port and DOC Douro wines in a blind tasting test judged by 300 individual experts from across the world.
Among the wines that impressed the jury were Graham’s 10 Years, which was awarded a gold medal, as well as Late Bottled Vintage 2008, Quinta dos Malvedos Vintage 2001, DOC Douro Chryseia, Posto Scriptum and Prazo de Roriz, which were all awarded silver medals.
Symington excelled and impressed at the IWSC, which receives entries from nearly 90 countries worldwide including renowned producers such as Wolf Blass (Australia), Stag’s Leap (California, USA), Bodegas Olarra (Rioja, Spain) and Diageo (UK).
Seven of the Symington family members work in the business. They assure consumers that every step of the way, from the Douro vineyards through the winemaking, ageing and tasting, a member of the family is directly responsible for each bottle of Port produced.
