Tangerine tragedy in Oliveira de Azeméis

A 65-year-old man died on Sunday morning in a tragic accident involving the picking of tangerines. What appears to have happened is that the man set up a ladder – with which to pick the tangerines from a tree – on top of the cover of a deep well. While he was up the ladder, the cover ‘gave way’, sending both man and adder down ‘around 8 metres’, into the water below. There was only a metre of water at the bottom of the well, but the fall appears to have been fatal. An autopsy is taking place to determine the exact cause of death.
