Tapestry stolen from Portalegre museum worth €17,000

A small tapestry stolen from Portalegre’s Tapestry Museum – Guy Fino last Sunday is valued at €17,000. “Le Roi Soleil” (sun king) as the piece is entitled, did not have any particular security protecting it, admits Portalegre mayor Fermelinda Carvalho, but it was “well secured” in its position. “We don’t understand how they managed to steal it”, she told reporters on the sidelines of the Ponte de Sor Air Summit. Two museum employees noticed that the piece was missing on Sunday at around 12.45pm and alerted PSP police immediately. A group of 80 visitors entered the museum that day. Investigations are ongoing.
