Tavira’s ‘Mediterranean Fair’ has become one of the town’s main summer events, attracting thousands of followers of a healthy way of life. This year it will be held between September 5 and 9, with the council vowing to “preserve, promote and celebrate” the Mediterranean Diet that is all about healthy lifestyle choices.
Daily consumption of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and healthy fats is recommended as is a moderate consumption of fish, poultry, beans and eggs. Enjoying a glass of wine every now and then, surrounded by friends and family, is recommended, as is staying physically active and enjoying the outdoors.
Local restaurants will be taking part in the fair, presenting a special menu inspired by the Mediterranean Diet for €10.
But the event is also popular for its varied programme which includes gastronomic workshops, concerts, street entertainment, exhibitions, talks, guided tours and even yoga classes and bike rides.
Tavira has been organising the fair ever since the Mediterranean Diet was considered World Intangible Heritage by UNESCO in 2013.
