New advanced outpatient and diagnostic health unit will be built in Tavira
The municipal council of Tavira has officially launched a public tender for the construction of a new advanced outpatient and diagnostic health unit, with an estimated budget of €9.8 million.
According to the announcement published in State newspaper Diário da República on Wednesday, the facility will serve as the headquarters of the Eastern Algarve Health Centre Group (ACES Sotavento) while also addressing a lack of services at Tavira’s existing health centre.
The new health unit, backed by EU community funds, will be divided into two main wings (north and south), each dedicated to specialised medical services. The north wing will host specialised outpatient consultations, medical exams and treatments and dentistry services, while the south wing will feature facilities for ambulatory surgery and endoscopy, paediatrics, an integrated diagnostic centre (CDI), CT scans (TAC), X-rays, and laboratory analysis, and physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
Additionally, the building will include support spaces, such as recovery rooms, changing areas, and multi-purpose rooms for training, meetings, and a library.
The project also features the construction of nearby roads, pedestrian paths and parking.
The public tender is open until March 5, with a projected construction timeline of 500 days.
