Teacher faces disciplinary proceedings for assaults on student

A teacher from a Silves primary school is facing disciplinary proceedings for allegedly assaulting and humiliating a six-year-old boy in front of his peers.

Official confirmation came from the principal of Silves school group João Gomes, who told Lusa news agency that the “action is already in effect” and that the school board is now awaiting the verdict of the inspector appointed to the case – which could take up to a month.

Gomes refused to comment on the punishment that the teacher faces if found guilty: “That is up to the inspector to decide,” he said.

In the meantime, the teacher will continue working at the school, while the six-year-old has been transferred to another establishment in the borough.

Lusa reports that the sequence of events was triggered by a complaint filed by the child’s mother at the local GNR police station.
