16-year-old arrested for fatally stabbing 19-year-old in Faro
PJ police have arrested a 16-year-old who is “strongly suspected” of having another killed another teenager in Faro.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon (June 26) after two groups of teenagers arranged a “confrontation” near the municipal pools of Faro.
“The victim, along with three others, tried to flee when they realised they were outnumbered by over a dozen teenagers,” the PJ police statement says. “After they separated, the victim was ambushed and fatally attacked,” it adds.
The victim, a 19-year-old male, was “fatally injured with a knife, suffering severe chest trauma that resulted in his death.”
Following its investigation of the case, PJ’s Southern Directorate was able to gather sufficient evidence to identify those involved in the death of the teen, including the “primary suspect.”
The 16-year-old suspect was due to be brought before judicial authorities for an initial hearing and determination of preventive measures.
