Teen car thieves arrested in Portimão after stealing BMW

Two 18-year-olds have been arrested after stealing an expensive BMW from an apartment building garage in Alvor.

The young men were caught driving the car into Portimão on Tuesday afternoon (March 22) just hours after stealing it.

According to a GNR police statement, the youngsters “planned to sell the car and had already contacted a potential buyer”.

To add insult to injury, the young men tried to escape when police pulled them over and the driver did not have a licence.

Whether they knew the BMW’s owner was not revealed. However, they were definitely well-informed on how to steal the car as they snatched its keys by breaking into another vehicle owned by the same person.

Both young men are Portuguese and live in Portimão. They were due to be heard by Portimão’s Public Prosecutor’s Office.
