“On Saturday, temperatures will decrease by approximately 4ºC to 6ºC in the northern and central regions, while on Sunday, the drop will be more widespread, ranging from 2ºC to 5ºC”, says IPMA meteorologist.
According to meteorologist Ângela Lourenço’s report to Lusa, mainland Portugal will experience a drop in temperatures below 20ºC starting Saturday, along with a forecast of stronger winds.
According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) meteorologist, the temperature drop will occur twice. On Saturday, temperatures will decrease by approximately 4ºC to 6ºC in the northern and central regions, while on Sunday, the drop will be more widespread, ranging from 2ºC to 5ºC.
Ângela Lourenço states that temperatures are expected to drop below 20ºC, showing variations between the northern areas and those near the coastline.
“For example, on Sunday, in Bragança, we will have a maximum of 10ºC and a minimum of 4ºC, in Guarda a maximum of 7º Cand a minimum of 1ºC and in Faro a maximum of 17ºC degrees”, she said.
Today, fog is expected in various parts of mainland Portugal, with rainfall likely concentrated in the Minho and Douro Litoral areas.
“Tomorrow evening, we can expect a cold front to arrive, resulting in heightened wind speeds and a cooler atmosphere. The air will be colder, and temperatures will drop”, said the meteorologist, adding, “temperatures are expected to remain low until at least Wednesday.
“Thursday may bring a minor increase or a stabilisation in temperature levels. In terms of rainfall, there is a possibility of it happening to the north of the Montejunto-Estrela mountain range on Saturday, but no precipitation is expected on the following days leading up to December 11. As of December 12 [Thursday], there is a level of doubt about the position of a depression that could potentially affect us in the week ahead”, she indicated.
The weather expert added that frost will develop in the inland areas until Thursday.
“During the weekend, we will also have, mainly on Sunday, an increase in maritime agitation, with waves of 4 to 4.5 metres predicted between Cabo Carvoeiro and Cabo Raso”, she said.
Due to strong maritime unrest, the IPMA issued a yellow weather warning for the districts of Lisbon and Leiria between midnight on Sunday and midnight on Monday.
The yellow weather warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
