Tempting delights by the smokehouse

THE EXCITEMENT was intense recently in Armação de Pêra as the long-awaited smoke wafted from the chimney.

For that act confirmed that the smokehouse, which has been developed by John Ketley and his partner Simon Macdonald, was almost ready for business.

Fumeiro do Algarve has already been talked about in the pages of The Resident, and it was great news for all concerned that very soon smoking will take place in Armação to fulfill forward orders for the various products being produced under the Fumeiro banner.

John has worked in the catering industry for over 30 years and is no stranger to the media, including radio. He has an enormous enthusiasm and wealth of knowledge in both food and drink.

Gourmet

Simon is a Scottish West Highland gourmet smoker with more than 20 years experience, having smoked more types of meat than you could shake a stick at. His client portfolio reads like a who’s who including the QE2, A list celebrities and more than one Royal household. Simon’s enthusiasm is as great as John’s and the business partners are looking forward to supplying the Algarve public with such tempting delights as salmon, sardines, swordfish and local cheeses – all smoked of course.

For those with a more adventurous palate John and Simon will be offering various specialities including alligator and zebra to order.
