Text tidal wave

Each Portuguese mobile phone owner sent an average of four text messages on New Year’s Eve when, according to the three Portuguese mobile phone operators, more than 146 million text messages were sent by well-wishers. According to statistics, TMN processed more text messages – 72 million – than any other operator, sent by a total of 19.5 million people. Optimus processed 38 million messages – via 12 million people – and Vodafone processed 36 million text messages.
