The last year has been successful for The Algarveans Experimental Theatre Group, with two critically-acclaimed shows helping to raise funds for charity.
Thanks to production “How The Other Half Loves” (November 2013) and pantomime “Robin Hood” (spring 2014), which attracted large audiences to the Lagoa Auditorium, the theatre group has decided to donate money to the Lagoa community as a token of appreciation for the support it receives.
The group has supported the Centro Popular de Lagoa, which looks after the needs of the elderly and currently cares for 77 residents. It has a waiting list for 100 people. They also provide day care facilities and visit people in the community.
The Algarveans purchased eight much-needed wheelchairs and a number of mattresses for the Centro Popular de Lagoa and Algarveans’ committee members Steve Dackcombe and Jennie Vaughan recently handed over the items to Ana Luísa Domingos at the centre.
Rehearsals for the Algarveans’ next show “Going Dutch”, by John Godber, are in full swing. “Going Dutch”, an adult comedy full of sexual tension and middle-aged angst, tells the story of two couples and their trials and tribulations on a trip to Amsterdam to see a Bruce Springsteen in concert.
“Going Dutch” is being performed at Lagoa Auditorium from November 27 to 29 at 8pm. Tickets are available at €10.
