STOP PRESS: Due to sellout, an additional performance on Wednesday, November 13, at 7.30pm, has been scheduled
The Algarveans Theatre Group is only a couple of weeks away from raising the curtain on its forthcoming nearly-sold-out production of “Sister Act”, the Broadway musical based on the hit film starring Whoopi Goldberg.
The group continues to attract new members, actors and singers, some fresh to the stage and some old pros, but all keen to deliver a great show. This might be the most multinational cast yet, although the production is in English.
Professional director and vocal coach Carmen Danen is Dutch, while English choreographer Shelly Dança brings a wealth of professional experience to the dance numbers.
Deloris Van Cartier, who takes refuge in the convent, is played by Portuguese Joana Jacob and mobster Curtis is portrayed by Nemerson Ramos originally from Brazil.
Furthermore, Canadian Madeleine Wheare taking the role of Mother Superior is supported by an ensemble of various nationalities: American, British, Brazilian, Canadian, French, Finnish, German and Portuguese.
What do they all have in common? Love of the theatre and commitment to the hard work entailed in bringing this terrific show to the stage.
Music is by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater and the book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner with additional material by Douglas Carter Beane.
Based on the Touchstone Pictures Motion Picture “Sister Act” written by Joseph Howard, this amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International.
Sister Act will be playing at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium, Lagoa, on November 13, 14, 15 and 16 at 7.30pm with a matinée on Sunday, November 17, at 2pm. Tickets at €15 are available now from BOL.pt or in person at Auditório Carlos do Carmo, Convento de S. José in Lagoa and at Município de Lagoa – Balcão Único. Tickets are also available at Worten and FNAC shops and websites.
